Leadership

Ms. Rachel Fan comes from a strong multinational pharmaceutical background, having held key positions in leading companies including Novartis, Burroughs Wellcome, SmithKline Beecham, and GlaxoSmithKline. She has extensive regional experience in business development, sales, and marketing. 

Rachel spent a decade between 2006 and 2015 at GSK in a leadership role and as an Innovative Business unit director. In the latter position, she was responsible for driving new product launches and market share growth. 10 out of the 15 new product launches she undertook became market leaders in their respective product categories in less than three years. 

During her tenure in the leadership role, Rachel received numerous company local and regional marketing excellence awards and regional leadership awards between 2008 to 2013. She was also identified as a local talent for the company to invest in and develop, e.g. through leadership programmes in the Asia Pacific and at the UK headquarters. 

​Rachel started her own genetic testing service company in 2015.  She has successfully gained a leading sales position in paediatric genetic testing and diagnostic whole-exome sequencing at academic medical institutions and has delivered over 90% net profit return on investment in 4 years. Rachel joined G-NiiB GenieBiome in April 2020 to realize her passion further in innovative microbiome medicine.

Professor Francis Chan Ka Leung, SBS, JP is an internationally renowned clinician-scientist in with over two decades of experience in clinical trials. His research interest include helicobacter pylori, peptic ulcer disease and microbiome diagnostics and therapeutics. He is Co-Director of the Microbiome I-Center (Magic). 

Professor Chan has extensive experience in transforming innovative discoveries into novel clinical application and brings with him a rich experience in translational and clinical research to GenieBiome. He was the lead investigator of over ten multi-national mega clinical trials on the safety and efficacy of cyclo-oxygenase-2 inhibitors in patients with disabling arthritis. His research not only led to publications in top-notch journals but also FDA approval of new drugs in the U.S. and worldwide. Since 1999, he led his team to promote population-based colorectal cancer screening in Hong Kong and had significantly contributed to the launch of territory-wide screening programme by the Department of Health in 2016.

He has published over 860 full scientific articles in high impact international journals with a h-index of 124. He is the only researcher in academic history to have published 8 first-author original research articles in two prestigious medical journals, The New England Journal of Medicine and The Lancet. He is also the first Chinese and second in Asia to be conferred the International Leadership Award by the American College of Gastroenterology in 2018.  In 2019, ExpertScape named him top 0.06% world expert in Aspirin, Helicobacter Infections and Peptic Ulcer.

Professor Chan is Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) , Choh-Ming Li Professor of Medicine and Therapeutics of CUHK. He is also a member of the Board of the Hong Kong Hospital Authority. He was appointed Justice of the Peace by HKSAR Government in 2010.  In 2019, he was conferred the Silver Bauhinia Star for his contributions to education, research, and health service.

Professor Chan shared the same vision with Professor Ng and their goals are to transform novel microbiome signatures into clinical applications for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of human diseases.

Professor Siew Ng is a world-leading clinician- scientist and highly-cited researcher in the field of the gut microbiome. She is also Director of the Microbiome -I Center ( Magic), the first microbiome R&D center supported by the HKSAR government. Together with co-founder, Prof Francis Chan, she oversees the scientific development and new R&D pipelines of GenieBiome. Her innovations are include fecal-based microbial DNA diagnostics for early detection of cancer, inflammatory bowel diseases and autism spectrum disorders. Her research in microbiome therapeutics has led to the discovery and characterisation of over 30 new human-derived bacteria strains for testing in vitro, in vivo and in clinical trials for various indications. Her team was the first in the world to delineate gut dysbiosis in covid-19 and they have since completed two randomised controlled trials using a novel oral live microencapsulated bacteria (SIM01) in acute and post-acute covid-19 syndrome. She also pioneered fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) service in Hong Kong for recurrent clostridiodes difficile infections and their center is the sole provider of FMT to over 40 hospitals within the hospital authority in Hong Kong.

Professor Ng is currently Croucher Professor in Medical Sciences, Professor and Assistant Dean (Development), Faculty of Medicine at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.  She received her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from the University of London and the Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in immunology from Imperial College London. She has published over 320 papers in international journals, including Nature Genetics, Cell Host & Microbes, Nature Communications and Lancet. Her work has been cited by others more than 40,000 times

She was named Highly-Cited Researchers by Clarivate in three consecutive years - 2020, 2021 and 2022. In 2023, she received the High Flyer Innopreneur Award and the Most Popular Innopreneur Award by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries.

Professor Ng has the vision to transform novel microbiome scientific discoveries into clinical applications for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases to upscale the health of our society.  Her passion drives her to co-found G-Niib GenieBiome in 2019 with Professor Francis Chan.

Prof. Alan Chow has over 25 years of experience in the financial and commercial sectors having held different senior management positions at various leading international financial institutions and a listed company in Hong Kong. He retired in 2008 to focus on the promotion of charitable causes and has since been offering his time generously to serve a number of tertiary education institutions, government grant committees, nonprofits and family foundations, including being the CEO of The D. H. Chen Foundation between 2013 - 2019. He is also currently an Adjunct Professor at the JC School of Public Health and Primary Care, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Being a seasoned financial professional, Professor Chow has been an integral part of the development of GenieBiome since 2020. Utilizing his wealth of experience in corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions, he played a pivotal role in the successful completion of the Company's Series A and B financing. As the Senior Advisor of GenieBiome, Professor Chow provides valuable insights on the Company's corporate structure, strategies formulation and strategic partnership opportunities.
